Government Official States MoD Investigating Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defence minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in all cars.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

He explained that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, but noted that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment highlights the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in every areas of government activities, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
