The island nation has been hit hard by Intense Cyclone Fung-wong, which left a minimum of two fatalities and forced the evacuation of over a million residents.
Authorities stated that the powerful weather system caused extensive sudden floods, storm surges, mudslides, and destructive gale-force winds, prompting the relocation of millions of residents across the country.
In the town of Pandan, a severely affected area, disaster response teams documented floodwaters climbing to the tops of houses and residences being swept away by the powerful currents.
âOur personnel rescued fourteen people stranded atop a house engulfed in flood in a flood-prone area,â a disaster-mitigation officer stated. One resident also called in panic, saying his homeâs roof was at risk of tearing away by the wind. We rescued him and four relatives.â

The super typhoon was downgraded to a typhoon on Monday morning while moving over the main island, home to the national capital.
Per the state weather service, its maximum winds dropped from 185 km/h to 165 km/h, though wind bursts were still reaching over 170 mph.
The cyclone is expected to continue weakening as it moves in the direction of Taiwan.
The national disaster response service stated efforts were ongoing to assess damage on buildings and roads.
Roughly thousands of shelters were activated to temporarily house tens of thousands of households.
Fung-wong struck just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi, that claimed hundreds of lives and left another 135 missing before moving on to Vietnam, causing five deaths there.
Search operations for those still missing had to be suspended on Sunday over risks to emergency personnel.
The climate crisis is making cyclones more intense and frequent. Fung-wong is the twenty-first storm to hit the Philippines in 2025.
Scientists report that the rate of intense cyclones hitting the Philippines has risen doubled over the last two decades.
International estimates indicate that intense storms result in an average of US$3.5 million in damage to the country annually.
The nationâs leader issued an emergency declaration last week because of the severe damage from Kalmaegi and the expected damage from Fung-wong.
